Below is information on the Free Community Forum being held on Tuesday, September 20th from 7-9 PM at the Strand Center Theatre located at 25 Brinkerhoff Street, Plattsburgh. The focus of the forum in “Understanding Heroin and Prescription Opioid Abuse” with guest speaker Michael Nerney.
Doors open at 6:15 PM and there will be information tables sponsored by Clinton County Mental Health and Addiction, Conifer Park, US Attorney’s Office of NY, Behavioral Health Services North, Champlain Valley Family Center, Alliance for Positive Health, SUNY Plattsburgh, Clinton County Health Department, and National Alliance on Mental Illness.

** Activities include dancing to DJ Skippy’s tunes, playing in a bounce house, competing in a hula hoop contest at 1:30 PM and breaking it down in a dance contest with the Fidelisaurus at 2:30 PM.**
Prizes will be awarded for the winners of the contests. In addition, names will be drawn at 3:45 PM from the children and adults who visit 15 agencies at this event to win special prizes.
Agencies participating include Behavioral Health Services North; Caregiver Resource Center; Clinton County Sheriff’s Department; Clinton County Youth Program; Clinton, Essex, Franklin Library System; Cornell Cooperative; Empowerment Counseling; Fidelis Care; Healthy Families Clinton County; Healthy Neighborhoods; Legal Aid Society of NE New York; NYSEG Energy Assistance Program; One Work Source; Plattsburgh City Fire Department, Stop Domestic Violence and the Ted K Center.

Below is information on the Free Rabies Clinics sponsored by the Clinton County Health Department and being held on September 22nd (Mooers Fire Station), September 27th (Dannemora Fire Station), October 4th (Champlain Fire Station) and October 6th (Peru Fire Station).
Bronce Perez Matos, Community Outreach Coordinator for the New York State Department of Consumer Protection, provided a free interactive public presentation (approximately 1-hour in duration) on “Senior Scams and Identity Theft Protection” in the Community Room at Lakeview Towers (34 Flynn Avenue) at 10 AM on Friday, July 22nd.
The presentation included information on current scams (IRS telephone calls, free cruises, grandchild in trouble) as well as other strategies the scammers use such as ‘shoulder surfing’ and ‘spear phishing’. Light refreshments and hand-outs were provided.
Bronce is scheduled to provide the presentation again on Thursday, August 4th at 1:00 PM in the Community Room at Robert S. Long Apartments at 39 Oak Street, Plattsburgh. Registration is not required for this informative free event. Mark your calendar and we will see you on August 4th!
The Farmer’s Market is coming a little closer to Plattsburgh Housing Authority! On Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, a local farmer will be setting up shop in the Lakeview Towers Parking Lot (34 Flynn Avenue, Plattsburgh NY 12901) to sell locally-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Farmer’s Market Coupons, WIC and cash are acceptable forms of payment. Support your local economy and farmers by bringing home something fresh for dinner. Hope to see you there!
On July 7 through July 10, Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary will be presenting Mayor’s Cup 2016 in collaboration with the City of Plattsburgh and a variety of area businesses. There will be events of beautiful Lake Champlain, events for kids and live music playing. All events are free!!

The Plattsburgh Housing Authority will accept rental assistance applications for its Housing Choice Voucher Program effective June 17, 2016. Applications will be available at PHA’s administrative offices located at 4817 South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, NY. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria as set by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development to include income limits.
