HCV/Section 8 Wait List to Open June 17th

The Plattsburgh Housing Authority will accept rental assistance applications for its Housing Choice Voucher Program effective June 17, 2016.  Applications will be available at PHA’s administrative offices located at 4817 South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, NY.  Business hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Applicants must meet eligibility criteria as set by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development to include income limits.

The annual employee meeting is over and the Admin Office is back open. Thank you for your understanding!

Today, November 20, 2015, the PHA Administrative Office will be closed for our annual employee meeting beginning at 11 am. We will reopen the office as soon as we are done; however, no timetable currently exists. Check back on the PHA website or the PHA Facebook page for notice of the office being re-opened!

Scholarship Application!

If you are attending or plan to attend a college, a technical, vocational or other training program for the academic year 2016 and are a resident of the Plattsburgh Housing Authority or participant in the HCV program, you are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

Application Procedure

  1. Obtain and complete an application. Applications may be obtained at the Ted K Community Center, at the PHA main office or on the PHA website (Scholarship Application).
  2. Obtain two letters of recommendation.
  3. Write an essay (maximum of 1,000 words) explaining why you are deserving of a scholarship.
  4. Obtain high school and college transcripts. (Successful completion of at least one semester of post high school classes is preferred not mandatory.)
  5. Complete your application process and return it to the Ted K Center or the PHA main Office by Friday, November 13, 2015.

 

Selection Criteria

The scholarship committee will consider among other factors the following when selecting recipients:

  1. Financial need as determined by the costs of college attendance compared with an applicant’s household income and other financial factor’s.
  2. Prior academic performance, personal achievements.
  3. Commitment to and demonstrated potential for success in college, technical or vocational school.

 

R.N.D. PHA Scholarship

Today, October 20, 2014, the PHA is again accepting Richard N. Durham Scholarship applications. The application is located on the PHA website (under forms/resources tab), at the Ted K Center or at the PHA administrative offices. If you are a PHA resident or participate in the PHA Housing Choice Voucher program you are eligible! The scholarship provides funding for anyone – including adults – that are currently enrolled and attending any college, training, or vocational classes. Other types of schooling may also be eligible. Please fill out the application! The PHA is proud of our residents that are seeking further education and/or training and would love to help someone achieve their dream!

Applications must be received by either the Ted K Center or the PHA administrative office by close of business on Friday, November 14th. 2014.

Ted K Center Summer Camp

The Summer Camp was recently featured on WCAX 6 o’clock news!

The Plattsburgh Housing Authority’s Ted K. Center is excited to announce the 1st Annual Ted K. Center Summer Camp for the children of the Plattsburgh Housing Authority. The camp is being offered through collaboration with the Turner Board (Camp Tapawingo) and with funding from the Foundation of CVPH Medical Center and program offerings from the Cornell Cooperative Extension. The Ted K. Center would also like to thank the Clinton County Youth Bureau, United Way of the Adirondack Region and Kiwanis Breakfast Club Plattsburgh for their continued contributions that allow programs to grow and continuously enrich experiences for our youth.

The 1st Annual Ted K. Center Summer Camp will provide the Plattsburgh Housing Authority youth an opportunity to leave the confines of the City of Plattsburgh and spend time in nature on the shores of Lake Champlain. There will be two weeks for varying age groups. The first week of camp will be from August 4th – August 8th for children aged 5-8. The second week of camp for children aged 9-14 will be from August 11th – August 15th. Both weeks will have the children arriving at camp around 9 a.m. and returning around 4 p.m. The campers at the 1st Annual Ted K. Center Summer Camp will enjoy nutritional education from Cornell Cooperative Extension, a variety of arts and crafts, and team building recreational games.

The Plattsburgh Housing Authority and the Ted K. Center would like to thank Colleen Lemza, Diane Chanowsky, Amy Peck, Plattsburgh City School District, Foundation of CVPH Medical Center, Clinton County Youth Bureau, United Way of the Adirondack Region, Kiwanis Breakfast Club Plattsburgh, Cornell Cooperative Extension Clinton County, and the Clinton County Health Department for their assistance and efforts in providing this opportunity for our youth.
